We have a one room school house on our property. We live east of Oblong about 6 miles, or northeast of Willow Hill approx. 3 miles. We have thought it would be neat for someone to do a news artilce about it and share some of it’s history. We know a few people who attended there and occasionally someone will stop by and tell us they went to school there as a kid. On quick glance, the building doesn’t look in that bad of shape, but it is in need of lots of repairs. We have wished it could be preserved, but that would cost lots of money! The previous owner stored seed beans and wheat in it which caused the floor to sag around the edges and thus pull away from the walls. You are more than welcome to come look at it anytime you are in the area!

My great-grandmother taught at Hutton school in the early/mid 20′s. She’d have been 18 in 1923 so I am assuming it would have been around that time or shortly after. I would love to know if there are any photos out there, so if you know of any… post a reply! I would gladly purchase duplicates. Her name then was Miss Johanson.

My mom and dad went to a one room school house, and there is a old school building in the bridgeport lantern park in bridgeport.illinois. Bridgeport has been keeping it up.

Check out the Patton church in Dennison, ILL. School house with a church too! It has been in my familey for yrs, altho it is not our property. My granddad owned this and donated the land for a church back in the early 1900s.

My father in law went to school in a 1 room school house that is still standing in Louisville, IL. Doesn’t appear to be being kept up but still looks like it is good shape for being so old.
