Learnin’ on the River

On Wednesday, I had the great opportunity to spend the day on the Wabash River with the students from Sullivan Junior High School.  It was all part of the annual Wabash River Raft Trip, the twelfth one!  We paddled in large rafts and stopped for lunch and educational demonstrations on a sandbar a little over mid-way through the trip.  Our group won first prize for creating an ecosystem model at the sandbar stop.  Congratulations to Eli Smith, Ben “Ecosystem” Nasser, Brandon Bulls, Jacob Story, Victoria Scaggs, Emily Greggs, Courtlyn Griggs, Cory Smith and Amy Scarborough (who deserted us and moved to another raft after lunch!)  All-in-all it was a great trip, even though our raft lost two paddles!  Thanks to the Sullivan Soil and Water Conservation District for all the efforts in organizing the event.  It was great fun, but I had no idea how out of shape I am…..ouch.
